I Still Love H.E.R. is a booking/entertainment company created by LadyGemStar & KickAssAlyssia dedicated to the love of hip hop and its elements through the feminine experience. I Still Love H.E.R. hosts a monthly event in Chicago where the four elements are represented by featuring a variety of Chicago female DJs, MCs, Breakers and artists. We want to create a platform and raise awareness to the importance of the feminine contribution in the hip hop community in Chicago, as well as in its culture. This month we bring you bring you performances by MISS CHIFF & TERI "LYRIC" GREEN. Music this month will be provided by our guest DJ TRIN & our resident DJ RHATED R! We will feature art by MONICA HERNANDEZ. MISS CHIFF Telling the truth is often heart-wrenching, and Miss Chiff isn't afraid to do so. This new face to the underground scene brings her emotions to the surface to lay naked before you by combining rap, pop, and rhythm and blues. Sensitive lyrics entwined with industrial beats favor conventional rhythm with an underground flair. Leading up to the release of her first EP 'Hooked', she experienced promising steps forward writing spoken word, which would eventually develop itself into rap lyrics. The journey began as a duo, but Miss Chiff has been tackling it solo since her first EP release. Following the release she made appearances on Chic-A-Go-Go, Chicago's Fearless Radio, Radio DePaul and toured her new home by performing solo at a variety of venues. She has a background in musical theater; however, her move to the Windy City has lead to a more independent route. Creating her own destiny with music has proven to be rewarding. Her new EP: 'The Bright Side' is set to release following the music video that will set it off: 'Schnapps On The Rocks'. The motivation behind the video for Schnapps extends from an attempt to remain lighthearted. While this new EP bleeds into the genres of pop and rhythm and blues, it's base is no different than that of 'Hooked'; being rap. She is ready for the journey ahead, with goals of ghostwriting, performing outside of Chicago, and producing further videos of her own work and possibly that of other artists. TERI "LYRIC" GREEN Hip hop artist Teri “Lyric” Green, fourth runner up in YOBI.tv and MySpace first ever “Take the Stage” competition, is as unique as they come. Asked to describe herself, Lyric might say “I am the voice of the unheard that refuses to be silent; I am the strength for the weak who has no clue how to fight back; I am softly crafted words formulated together creating Lyric.” It is not a surprise that she counts such strong trailblazing women as Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, India Arie and Lauren Hill among her lyrical inspirations. ?? Lyric went from orphan to engineer, becoming emancipated from Jane Adams Hull House in the suburbs of her native Chicago, Illinois at the age of 21. Deciding to overcome the unfortunate hand she had been dealt, Lyric gained her education in technology and engineering and established a career as a computer programmer/broadcast engineer while continuing to pursue her love of music. Her technical knowledge allows her to produce her own music, resulting in a signature sound that is uniquely her own.?? Lyric performs spoken-word hip-hop and neo soul. In 2011 her original song, "Can't Back Down", was nominated for song of the year at New York City’s Underground Music Awards. She was chosen as one of the finalists for the Coors Light Sponsored, "Looking for the Coldest" MC competition where her song, "Cold as Ice" was promoted and downloaded over 22,500 times. Lyric’s song “Death of a Poet” was also nominated for Song of the Year at the 2011 Music in Media Awards in Hollywood, California. She recently challenged herself to perform on fifty mics in sixty days, a feat that took her across the United States and even to Jamaica. Music will be provided by our guest DJ TRIN and our resident DJ RHATED R (CHI) Rhated R tried rapping and after realizing there was a lot more to rapping than met the eye, she gave up all hope at becoming a rapper. She later co-hosted a college radio show for a short period of time. While attending college, Rhated R interned for several major record labels. She eventually landed at THE pioneering hip-hop label. At the time, the music industry wasn’t ready for the music download craze. Unfortunately, it cost a lot of people their jobs and Rhated R was a casualty to a series of layoffs. Still having feelings for her first love, she took a chance on love again and rekindled the love affair…this time from the DJ booth! Art showcased this month by MONICA HERNANDEZ "My natural style, using flat, bright, and bold color pallets, is influenced by my Mexican heritage and culture. I enjoy making work that is eye-catching, and enjoy how textures and colors compliment each other. The imaginary environments I create are inspired by real places, personal interests, and people I know. The textures incorporated in my digital work are those I have created using traditional media, but they are also created and conceived by me for that individual piece, giving my work a more intrinsic feeling."
